Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing organization in the Newark area, for an entry-level Assistant Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their accounting career to build a strong foundation in day-to-day financial operations while working alongside experienced bookkeeping and accounting professionals.

The day-to-day of this role centers on accuracy, organization, and consistency, from entering invoices and reconciling accounts to helping prepare reports for the finance team. Responsibilities

• Enter and code accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
• Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records and filing systems
• Support processing of invoices, payments, and deposits
• Help prepare basic financial reports under supervision
• Assist with payroll data entry and timesheet tracking
• Respond to routine vendor and client billing inquiries
• Maintain the general ledger by posting approved journal entries
• Support month-end close tasks alongside senior bookkeeping staff
• Perform other administrative and clerical accounting duties as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting or related field preferred
• Basic understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial terminology
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
• Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software a plus
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to learn and take direction from senior team members
